A luxurious and exclusive safari lodge, Makanyane is situated within the magnificent malaria-free Reserve of Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province. Makanyane Safari Lodge was designed by a team of award winning architects. To experience the vibrant bush life around you, allow yourself to be led through Madikwe`s 75,000 hectare environment, either on foot or in an open vehicle. Watch the wildlife, oblivious to your presence, from one of our bush hides overlooking waterholes or facing plains that stretch to the horizon.

Over 340 bird species also make their home in Madikwe which sprawls across richly
varied eco-zones, from rocky peaks, across open grasslands, to verdant valleys, each zone
with its own distinctive inhabitants. The call of the fish eagle echoes down the river as elephants, escaping the heat of the day, plunge into the deep water and disturb the sleeping hippo.

A stroll along the shady path winding through the riverine forest will bring you to your romantic and secluded suite. As in the main lodge, rich African textures abound, walls of natural rock and dried tree trunks merge with rough teak doors and contrast with the overhanging thatch. The glass walled bedroom suites allow uninterrupted views of the river and the surrounding bush.

Facilities at the main lodge include spacious lounge areas, bar, gracious dining room, open air Boma, well stocked curio shop, heated filtered swimming pool, spa, gym and excellent wine cellar. The curio shop stocks bush wear and African artefacts as well as film and batteries.

Activities at Makanyane revolve around relaxing your body and mind and experiencing the rich details of your surroundings. Lounging at our heated swimming pool, a massage or aromatherapy on your private deck or in the bush spa, perhaps exercising in our gym, and catching up on your quiet time with a book from our library, Relax! You could even sleep out under the stars while nocturnal life continues around your secure, elevated deck at the Makanyane Hide. The rare African wild dog (in the Tswana language, "Makanyane"), cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species roaming the reserve below.

Accommodation comprises eight luxurious double suites, ensuring that each guest has privacy and individual attention. Each suite comprise of it`s own lounge, open-fronted lounge with its private sundeck is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush. Suites being air conditioned and heated, a fireplace, mini bar, fridge, hot beverage facilities, mini-safe, overhead fans and direct dial telephones. Bath robes, hairdryers, insect spray, mosquito repellent, sun block, shampoo, conditioner and body lotions are all available in the suite.

The spectacular bathrooms have under-floor heating as well as indoor and outdoor showers. The wide, folding doors can be opened to allow the sounds and scents of the surrounding bush to join you in the luxurious freestanding bathtub.  Bathrobes, hairdryers, insect repellent, body and sun lotion, soap as well as shampoo and conditioner are all provided.

A computer with full internet access is available for the use of guests together with
fax services. Satellite television and video are also provided.

Makanyane has air conditioned conference facilities for 16 people.

Transfers:

There is a scheduled daily flight between Johannesburg International Airport and Madikwe Game Reserve. The flight leaves at 11:15 from Johannesburg and arrives in Madikwe at approximately 12:15. The return flight leaves Madikwe at approximately 12:30 and arrives in Johannesburg at approximately 13:30.

Transfers between the Madikwe Airstrip and the lodge through the game reserve are complimentary.

Flights from Sun City to Madikwe and back can also be booked, as part of the scheduled flight.

Road transfers can be arranged from Johannesburg International Airport to Makanyane Safari Lodge and visa versa. (The drive takes about 3½ hours).
