Full Description

Tinga Private Game Lodge is situated on the banks of the Sabie river, in the prime game-viewing area of the Kruger National Park. The Sabie river has the highest recorded density of leopards in Africa, and one of the highest predator densities. The Sabie river is also said to have the richest biodiversity of any South African river, with many endangered and rare species (mammals, birds, reptiles and plants) being found in the area.
Tinga has an exclusive 5000 hectare concession within this area, where guests can view the wildlife on game drives or bush walks, whilst accompanied by SANParks-qualified guides. Tinga vehicles also have access to the entire Kruger road network, thus allowing guests to view the areas of historical significance and aesthetic beauty that the southern Kruger has to offer.

Tinga`s twin lodges, Legends and Narina, each comprise nine luxury suites. The suites are well spaced to ensure exclusivity, and each one is equipped with its own heated plunge pool and private viewing deck, and an unobstructed view of the Sabie river. The Sabie river is the lifeblood of the southern Kruger, and many visitors are treated to some spectacular sightings from the decks of their suites. With a focus on exclusivity, Tinga also offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a private dinner or wellness treatment on the decks of the suites.
As a concession lodge, Tinga adheres to the ecological mandate of SANParks, and all activities are undertaken with an aim to minimise ecological impact in the area.

Tinga is situated on the banks of the Sabie River in the prime game-viewing area of the Kruger National Park. The Sabie River has the richest biodiversity of any South African river, and the Sabie River valley has the highest recorded density of leopards in Africa. This is due the high density of impala in this area (95/km2).According to Dr Gus Mill (Research Fellow: SANParks), the area also has one of the highest predator densities in Africa. The Tinga concession is 5000 hectares of exclusive traversing along the Sabie and Sand Rivers, and sightings of the Big Five as well as general game are common. The area also has prolific birdlife, and a wondrous variety of fauna and flora.

Over and above the exclusive traversing, Tinga also has access to the entire Kruger road network, allowing guests to visit sites of historical interest, as other landscapes. Game drives at Tinga are conducted in open safari vehicles. To ensure guest comfort, there is a maximum of six guests per vehicle. Tinga`s experienced guides and trackers also take guests on guided bush walks, where the fascinating aspects of Kruger not visible from a vehicle can be explored.

Tinga has two lodges, Legends and Narina. Each lodge has nine suites, all of which are identical in terms of luxury. Features include private heated plunge pool, private viewing decks, double air-conditioners, underfloor heating, heated towel rails, ceiling fans, double showers (with Victorian Rose and Massage sprays), double basins, and separate toilet and bidet. There is also a satellite television and DVD player in each suite, discretely hidden behind tasteful wooden paneling so as not to disturb the aesthetic charm of the suite. Although no children are allowed at Narina, they are welcome at Legends.

As a five-star luxury lodge, the emphasis is on providing a quality safari experience. Tinga`s unique location also means that the game viewing is not limited to game drives and bush walks. Each of the suites has an unobstructed view f the Sabie River, and guests relaxing on their private viewing decks or in the heated plunge pools are often treated to wonderful sightings of wildlife coming down to the river. The winter months are especially productive as all surface water disappears, and the wildlife becomes more dependent on the river. Elephant and buffalo are daily visitors, with lions and leopards making occasional appearances. The suites are constructed in such a way that even when taking a bath or a shower, one still has a wonderful view of the bushveld.

Tinga`s main focus is to provide a quality wildlife experience in an, exclusive, relaxed environment. The suites are well spaced to guarantee privacy and one can savour the bushveld ambience without fear of human disturbance. The birdsong , riverine vegetation and the flowing river enhance the mood of tranquillity. For those require something extra, our full-time therapists offer a range of wellness treatments, which can be enjoyed in the privacy of the suites. Trained by One Wellness, and using products from the Algologie range, they will ensure that guests achieve a state of relaxation in keeping with their surroundings.

The Skukuza Golf course is located very close to Tinga, and provides the unique opportunity to play a round of golf on a course where wildlife roams freely. One of the course rules is that balls it into the water are not to be retrieved. As the Chairman of the Golf Club states "We have an agreement with the crocodiles we do not go into their water and they don`t come into our pub!"

Tinga is one of the concessions within the Kruger National Park. The contractual mechanism is a concession contract which gives rights of occupation and commercial use of the land together with a set of obligations on the part of the concessionaire regarding financial terms, environmental management, social objectives, empowerment and other factors. All aspects of biodiversity management continue to be performed by SANParks, consistent with the park management plan.

Major objectives included the promotion of economic empowerment of the formerly disadvantaged, the promotion and provision of business opportunities to emerging entrepreneurs (in particular local communities adjacent to national parks) and the application of SANPark`s environmental regulations and global parameters to all concessions.
