Amidst huge boulders in a rugged landscape, Singita Boulders Lodge dominates its primeval surroundings. Built of the natural stone and thatch of the area, as ageless and enduring as the African bush, Boulders Lodge effortlessly offers its guests on African safari tours the luxury and tranquillity of a bygone age combined with elegant lodge décor and the conveniences and facilities of the modern world. It is situated beside the Sand River in a savannah plain, and the amazingly high populations of African wildlife in the Sabi Sand Reserve ensure unsurpassed game viewing in guided or self-drive Land Rover safaris.
At Boulders Lodge you will enjoy the contrasts of bold African sculptures placed on shone floors, of luxurious leather furniture against the rugged stone walls and thatch roofs, of traditional earthy colours and the finely worked tapestries … The 12 air-conditioned double suites all have their own bathrooms. Some suites have indoor showers while others boast private open-air showers! Each suite also has a double-sided fireplace, a beautifully appointed living area, a private pool and an outdoor leisure deck, some overlooking the Sand River. The rooms are beautifully appointed with elegant décor and every comfort is provided - cold beverages, liqueurs, fine wine, slippers and robes, bath toiletries, wildlife books - even bug spray, because even though you will be on anti-malaria treatment as part of your travel insurance you always need aids in Africa to help break the lifecycle of malaria!
Wake early and grab a coffee and muffin as you leave on a dawn game drive. From the open Land Rover you will see the Big Five and so much more African wild game, some of them endangered animals, that you will be glad of the natural history books supplied in your suite. Leguaans to kudu - those beautiful doe-eyed females gazing placidly at you from the thick bush while the males with their magnificent spiral horns stand guard; elephants to tiny steenbok hiding in the grass; crocodiles and hippos grunting in the river; soaring eagles to humpbacked vultures impatiently waiting their turn at a lion kill. The list is endless!
Return to camp for a full breakfast and to enjoy the facilities, or simply to laze around and idly watch the bush around your suite for birds and animals wandering past. Lunch and mid-afternoon tea are served at the main lodge. You can arrange for a guided bush walk or the sole use of a Land Rover to go off on your own game drive, while a gym and health spa allow you to maintain your workouts or pamper yourself totally! Internet, satellite TV and fax facilities help you keep up to date with the outside world. Clay pigeon shooting can be arranged, and you can also enjoy bush breakfasts or sunset cocktails in some of the most scenic spots of the reserve. Guided visits to Justitia Village, just outside the reserve, give you some fascinating insights into the lives of the local Shangaan community.
After tea, the second bush drive of the day again shows you the abundant wildlife, becoming active again as the day cools down, and there is a wonderful stop for sundowners and snacks to enjoy the magnificent African sunset. As night falls, spotlights are switched on and you`ll see the nightlife of Africa - an experience of natural beauty and innocent savagery you`ll never forget! Dinner is served upon your return, and like every meal served by the internationally trained staff at Boulders Lodge it is truly world-class. The night is now fully dark and full of the sounds and scents of the African bush, and you will be escorted back to your suite by a trained ranger.
Contemporary and airy, the Lodge at Boulders is inspired by the rough natural geometry of the rocks among which it is built. Overlooking the expanse of the Sand River and the plains beyond, Boulders is furnished in simple luxury, using the natural materials which Africa provides in abundance.
Hot clean air, the dark refreshing water of a private plunge pool, and space. Your suite at Boulders will provide you with a deep, relaxing calm and a silence that will strip away the distractions of the world, and leave you with a peace that will be yours long after you have left the bush. Light and spacious, completely private yet open to the view, each suite at Boulders presents a unique and contemporary view of luxurious African living.
