Free State:

Parys and surrounds are a popular destination  for fun and adventure and has endless  opportunities for family entertainment. With water sport being a highlight along the Vaal River for activities such as river rafting, water skiing, canoeing, angling and power boating. Abseiling, gliding facilities and hot air ballooning are also available in Parys. For the more "grounded" approach to adventure there are hiking and mountain bike trails, quad and 4 x4 routes, game viewing areas and bird spotting. Another highlight of the area is the Vredefort Dome where over over 2000 million years ago a meteorite as big as table mountain struck the earth, resulting in an impact structure 90km wide, being the largest and oldest in the world and declared one of South Africa`s World Heritage site.

Accommodation in the form of self catering chalets and fully equipped houses are plentiful in the area, making a family getaway or special family celebration well catered for and an area boasting plenty to occupy young inquisitive minds, not to mention beautiful and peaceful surrounds.

Kwa Zulu Natal - Drakensberg:

Drakensberg highlights its awsome mountain ranges, scenic landscapes encompassing the sheer natural beauty and rich biological diversity of the area. With such a setting brings outdoor adventure and fun. 
Dragon Peaks a 1000 acre wilderness estate in the rugged Drakensberg Mountains, bordering the Ukhahlamba World Heritage Site. This is one of the establishments where we can recommend for a family fun weekend to relax, enjoy and keep busy in the fresh air. 

Accommodation comprises of selfcatering thatched chalets, log cabins or park homes, ideal for families. There are four dams of varying sizes on the property, populated with bass and within easy walking distance from all the accommodation units. Rowboats are available for rental per hour. There is access to trout fishing at Mount Champagne, 1km up the valley within the estate grounds.

A  one night stay for a family of 4 (children under 16 years)  from R 1000 per night,  quotes are tailormade to suite your individual requests, minimum 2 nights required.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga has many great attractions through out the province.  The Loskop Dam is idea for family visits from Gauteng due to its close proximity making it an ideal weekend break 230 kilometers East of Johannesburg. On the banks of the Loskop Dam on the Olifants River a family resort enveloped between a mountain range and surrounding nature reserve. The reserve is home to the white rhino, leopard, crocodile and hippo with game viewing opportunities by boat being the most unique attraction. 

Accommodation comprising of log cabins, chalets and family houses and further activities such as fishing, hiking trails, kids play areas and surrounding 4x4 trails, guided game viewing quad trails, horseriding and birdwatching.

One night stay (minimum 2 night required) for a family of 4 is costed from R1390 
(including breakfast).

Limpopo - Waterberg and Mapungubwe

The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats as well as an amazing variety of birds including what’s probably the largest colony of endangered Cape vulture are found here. Also unique to the area is antelope species such as reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, eland and tsessebe can be found in this park.  


Accommodation at Marakele National Park is at a tented camp. Each tent has two beds (two stretchers are available which are more suitable for children), private bathroom (shower, wash basin and toilet), and a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator/freezer, two-plate stove and electricity. Each tent has a veranda with table and deck chairs and barbecue facilities.

One night stay for a family of 4 (children under 16 years) from R790 per night, self catering.   Excludes Conservation Fee of @R76 per adult/ R38 per child per day unless you are members of the loyalty programme - WILD, payable at Entrance, subject to further changes.

Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site, is rich in biodiversity, great scenic beauty and the cultural importance of the archaeological treasures of Mapungubwe. Visit Mapungubwe Hill where a far developed African civilisation prospered between 1200 and 1270 AD. This is also the place where archeologists excavated the famous golden rhino and other evidence of a wealthy African kingdom.

Accommodation at Leokwe Camp, the main camp located in the eastern section of the Park in the spectacular sandstone hills. Close to the camp guests can enjoy the Treetop Hide and the Confluence View Site & Picnic Area. The camp itself has a swimming pool and sundeck, as well as a central braai area. There are 2 single beds and 1 double sleeper couch in the cottages.

One night stay in the self catering cottages from R790 per night for family of 2 adults and 2 young children. Excludes Conservation Fee of @R76 per day/ R38 per child per day unless you are members of the loyalty programme - WILD, payable at Entrance, subject to further changes.

WWF ramps up rhino safety with new anti-poaching campaign

2010-09-10

WWF, the global conservation organization, has launched a campaign to raise support and funding for those rangers who put their lives on the line to protect Africa’s rhinos.  The month will culminate with a "Make Noise for Rhinos Day," during which WWF will ask people to dust off their vuvuzelas on Wednesday 22 September at 1 pm and make a noise with the horns in support of African rhinos.
