Summary of the Golden Rhino Itinerary.
DAY 1 -Arriving at Johannesburg’s Oliver Tambo International airport you are met by your personal animals, arts and ancestors tour guide. Your journey commences with a transfer to the Cradle of Humankind, in the heart of the beautiful Magaliesberg. Be prepared for an educational trip! Simply put - luxurious, educational, travel experiences for 8 days.
Exploring this place, where man’s earliest ancestors were discovered. You too will discover mankind’s roots at the museum, Maropeng. Descending into the depths of the Sterkfontein Cave and visit a dig on a private concession, discussing your finds and those before you.
Delicious African cuisine awaits you but not after an entertaining introduction to the tribes of Africa. Visiting a number of traditional african villages and watching their instructive dancing performance to build on an energetic atmosphere.
Overnight at a magnificent Guesthouse in the area, completed by conversational points throughout the 5 star lodge - a perfect ending to an exciting day of discovery.
DAY 2 - A hearty breakfast, is the prelude to another full day of adventure in the Magaliesberg. Meet at 8.30am and treasure tangible africa through learning facts on how man interacts with the animals which populate his world.
This is a complete hands-on experience, you will physically interact with lion cubs, cheetah, elephant communities and discover exactly what makes crocodiles tick! Let’s too not forget the giraffes lick! Your adventure captured in tangible keepsake to complete the journey.
Dinner back at the hotel after your enjoyable day out. You`ll enjoy the relaxed ending to another educational day in mankinds’ birthplace, conversational points highlighted in luxurious settings once again.
DAY 3 -A leisurely breakfast and you are transferred to the Limpopo Waterberg, approximately four hours travel time by road. Viewing the scenic South Africa with guidance en-route and expert knowledge to reflect on.
After check-in and lunch at Safarilands, you will have the incredible opportunity of meeting the San bushmen and spending the rest of your day learning everything about their incredible culture and lifestyle. Attending school in the most basic form.
Your evening will be spent indulging in traditional foods and local hospitality. Sensational story-telling from the mouths of these informative bushman are translated from their natural tongue, their body language expressive to capture the story. A good nights rest back at the lodge is next on the schedule and so completes the day.
DAY 4 - We rise for an early morning walk to view the great pots on the Ga-bobidi home range. These pots, some in excellent condition were created over 600 years ago. Learn all about these peoples movements as well as their traditions.
Breakfast will be served with panoramic views and exceptional hospitality. We return to the lodge to relax and enjoy, either the pool or viewing game at the waterhole a short distance away.
Meeting again for afternoon snacks before setting off to track and walk with an African Rhino, a significant species - the finds to be revealed throughout this journey. Return to the lodge for a boma dinner and taking in the last of this special place.
DAY 5 - Breakfast at leisure, is followed by our journey to the lodge and the wonders of the Mapungubwe World Heritage Site and its surrounds.
After lunch at the lodge you will be taken by our guide accompanied by an expert in early artistic expressions to review bushman paintings which are more than 3500 years old. The paintings were discovered in a unique shelter which has evidence of three different tribal cultures spanning the millennia.
Returning to the lodge for dinner, around a centrepiece of fire discussing the great wonders of our world, with excellent conversation and enlightening facts to complete the day.
This is the home of the fabulous golden rhino, discovered at an ancient king’s burial site overlooking the Limpopo river. This area is rich in ancient heritage and we’re about to experience it.
DAY 6 -After early morning tea and coffee you will be taken to Mapungubwe National Park for a tour of the Mapungubwe Hill after a 147 staircase climb. Here your local guide will give you an exciting interpretation of this amazing early African civilisation and the discoveries made there since.
After the tour you will return to the lodge for a late brunch before travelling the short distance to a lakeside lodge in the Kingdom of the Venda, an extremely artistic and creative culture we`re about to spend some time with.
After check-in and enjoying lunch overlooking lush lawns and watery vistas, you will be taken to see and meet the local musicians and their products of vision, you will too visit a group of women who will show you all there is to learn about the ubiquitous African pot. Having seen the huge ancient grain pots of the Waterberg, you will now discover how they were made, with these modern ladies still hand-making pots in the traditional way.
Returning for a scrumptious dinner overlooking the Albasini Dam, and retiring to your lakeside room for some time to reflect on the day just passed.
DAY 7 - After breakfast you will depart for our transfer to a Private Game Reserve – one of Africa’s premier safari destinations.
Travelling the rural regions south and landing yourself in the magical settings of this private reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park.
Lunch will be served en-route and you’ll be at Londolozi in time for an evening game drive, followed by dinner around the camp fire. Ending a magical day in perfect bliss!
DAY 8 - An early morning game drive is the best way to start the day! The fresh air when it’s still crisp and the smell of the African bush. You’ll wish you were here everyday.
Coming back to the lodge in time for breakfast in a surreal location, shaded and cool. Once your appetite is satisfied this can be followed by a walk, should anyone rise up to the challenge. A leisurely lunch before heading out for an afternoon/evening drive.
Returning to the lodge after dark for a sumptuous dinner and to discuss the sightings of the day.
DAY 9 - Another day spent in the company of the African Wild, enjoying superb experiences and wonderous sightings under the auspices of wildlife experts making every day superb!
DAY 10 - Depart for Johannesburg after breakfast and early morning game drive.
