Malawi .. a true african experience and a magical destination waiting for you to live this warm african hospitality. Re live the grace of a by gone era and simplicity which adds to this special charm which will reflecting through your holiday. Like many of the lodges dotted in and around Lake Malawi, specifically Mumbo Island, offers a full range of aquatic activities in this inland fresh water sea and home to more species of fish than any other lake in the world.

The Lake is especially famous for the small ‘perch-like" cichlids of which 500 varieties are not found anywhere else. They come in an enormous range of colours shapes and sizes, and diving here amongst this colourful collage is a unique experience on it`s own.

The Islands:

Domwe Island is the largest unpopulated island in Lake Malawi, with a circumference of 11km and a highest point 400m above lake level. The camp on Domwe Island is a basic yet exclusive camp situated behind a small beach on the island’s west side. The camp is run on a self-catered basis, with guests making use of the kitchen facilities to prepared their own meals.

The camp consists of three fully-furnished safari tents and two tent sites, plus a dining area with bar, water sport gazebo and kitchen. The kitchen has two full-time staff members, and is fully stocked with fridges, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery. The whole camp is built of timber, thatch and canvas, and is tucked into the lush foliage to create a ‘Robinson Crusoe’ atmosphere of rustic charm. Domwe Island is ideal for active guests and those that love observing nature.

Mumbo Island is part of the Lake Malawi National Park. The National Park is the first fresh-water marine reserve to be proclaimed on earth, and was declared a Natural World Heritage Site in 1984. Mumbo Island is a pristine and otherwise deserted tropical island floating on the expansive waters of the Lake Malawi National Park.

With a maze of massive underwater boulders, innumerable species of colourful cichlid fish and calm, clear water, the National Park offers what many consider the best freshwater snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the world. Mumbo Island Camp, accommodating fourteen guests, features tastefully furnished tents with shaded decks, hammocks, hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’, complemented by a dining area with bar and a watersport gazebo. The whole camp is built of timber, thatch and canvas, and is perched on high rocks overlooking the water, blending with the lush foliage.

The clean, protected waters around the island allow all guests, irrespective of fitness or experience, to enjoy sea kayaking, snorkeling, swimming and SCUBA diving. The island’s only mammals – Spotted-neck Otters - are remarkably playful and regularly join guests for a snorkel or swim.

Gecko Lounge has fully-furnished chalets complete with kitchenette. There is a bar and restaurant on the premises.
